This week, we will be getting to know more about the winners of Start Up Challenge 2020, Cheryl @coffeetoffeeme & Junjie @huijunjie! . Here are some insights from the @caffeebox founders: The main inspiration behind our idea is Mistobox. Since the US, UK and Australia has coffee subscription marketplaces like Mistobox, we thought why not do something similar in Singapore? . The most important question we ask: How can we differentiate ourselves from our competitors in terms of customer experience? . 1. We bring about a wholesome customer experience while remaining price-competitive. . 2. We provide a variety of boxes of coffee beans with a postcard showing the stories of coffee lovers, a brew guide, a hand written card by us and confectioneries. This allows customisability and personalisation. . What makes us different from the other teams was our dedication to break through the norms and our burning passion. . We started from ground zero, stretched ourselves hard but enjoyed every moment of it. Meet Wei Jie @dadspaghet, Syaz @syazrielzndn, and Jing Kai @vampz.v, interns at Cialfo! . We asked them about their roles, and one meaningful experience they had. Here is what they said: . Wei Jie: Working in Cialfo as a marketing intern has been really fun and eye-opening! I've gotten the chance to plan and run actual campaigns that are client facing and I feel like that is not something I could've done elsewhere as an intern. I feel like it is opportunities like this that has allowed me to grow and learn more marketing knowledge and skills beyond just studying in school. . Syaz: I'm the marketing intern, in charge of managing the company’s social media. My role also includes creating posters and assets for webinars and organising campaigns for my company. . It has been interesting as I’ve learnt a lot of skills and tips that will be useful for my future careers. Through my internship, it has allowed me to utilise what I’ve learnt in school and apply it. Cialfo is also in multiple regions of the world which have allowed me to create new connections too. . Jing Kai: Working on integrated projects with cialfo’s international team can really be an eye opener into the work culture and global perspectives into different things, which can sometimes be really interesting to hear, because I've never thought of it before.

"While we were in GEIP Vietnam, we had the chance to see more sustainable fashion brands and we wanted to play our part. We learnt more about sweatshops, their poor working conditions, unfair wages and unreasonably long working hours. The realisation that large international brands produced clothes from these places shocked us. . Even though we may not have the ability to change this situation, we can play our part by cherishing every piece of clothing that we own. In the long run, we believe that we can beat the negative impacts of fast-fashion together. . GEIP brought us together to start this business. Working in startups was extremely useful as we picked up and sharpen different skills such as graphic design, website design, marketing, etc. It was meaningful and eye-opening. . Currently, due to circuit breaker, we are unable to have face-to-face meetings or take photoshoots. We had to prepare our photoshoots in advance and delay the next collection launch. Zoom has also been our best friend through this period."
Meet Joel Mathews @sloppyj03s , a communications specialist in Prudential Innovation Lab. . His job scope includes crafting contents for their EDMs and various media outlet. Through GEIP, he was able to meet and work with like-minded people that may share the same interest as him; Photography. Here are 3 tips from Joel for anyone that would like to pursue Photography as a hobby. 1. Invest in a good gear which you can get returns in the future through freelancing. 2. You do not need to go to schools to learn a craft. Youtube and Google are my best friends. 3. Try new things! Meet Jasmine @jsmine.t and Jianzhen @mystery_genius, interns at @shopee_sg. . Jasmine is an e-commerce intern at Shopee Cross Border. Her role includes analysing cross border performance and analysing data with their competitors. . Jianzhen is a data intern at Shopee Cross Border. He handle data requests for the team, extracting latest campaigns reports figures.
